BuildYard publishes free construction, landscaping, material, and conversion calculators for practical project planning. This page explains how calculation logic, assumptions, source quality, validation, and corrections are handled.
Calculation-first publishing
BuildYard calculator pages are built around the calculation itself. Where practical, pages expose the formula, assumptions, worked example, practical notes, and common questions so users can understand what drives the result.
Assumptions are planning inputs
Default values such as density, yield, coverage, package size, waste, compaction, overlap, or price are planning assumptions unless a page identifies a specific source. Users should replace defaults with the exact product, supplier, or project specification before ordering materials or starting work.
Source priority
When product-specific information is available, manufacturer or supplier documentation should take priority over a generic default. Project documents, field measurements, applicable codes, permit requirements, and qualified professional advice take priority over a general-purpose calculator.
Validation
On September 15, 2026, all 188 BuildYard calculators were mapped to the closest public workflows from BuildCalc Pro, YardsCalculator, YardLoad, and CoverMyYard. Identified formula differences were reviewed, corrections were made where appropriate, and regression tests were preserved. More detail is available on the Calculation Methodology page.
Corrections
If a calculation appears incorrect, send the calculator URL, the values entered, the result you expected, and any supporting source to info@buildyardcalculators.com. Reproducible calculation issues are prioritized for review.
Review and updates
Calculator logic, explanatory text, assumptions, and source references may be updated when an error is found, a clearer method is available, or source information changes. Significant project-wide changes are recorded on the BuildYard Changelog.
No invented expertise
BuildYard does not attribute content to reviewers, engineers, contractors, or other specialists unless that review actually occurred and the reviewer can be identified accurately.
