BuildYard uses different kinds of references depending on the calculator. This page explains how those sources are treated and which information should take priority for a real project.
Mathematical and unit relationships
Basic geometry and standard U.S. customary conversions are used directly where applicable. Examples include rectangular volume, cylindrical volume, 27 cubic feet per cubic yard, and 2,000 pounds per U.S. short ton.
Manufacturer and supplier data
Product-specific yield, density, coverage, nominal or actual dimensions, package quantity, compaction guidance, and similar values can vary. When a manufacturer or supplier provides an exact specification for the product being purchased, that specification should replace a generic calculator default.
Public workflow validation
BuildYard has used public calculator workflows from BuildCalc Pro, YardsCalculator, YardLoad, and CoverMyYard as comparison points during validation. These services are used to identify differences in formulas or assumptions; they are not treated as authoritative sources for every value.
Project-specific information
Field measurements, drawings, engineering documents, manufacturer instructions, supplier quotations, applicable building codes, permit conditions, and authority requirements can override a general planning estimate.
When a page does not name a source
If a calculator presents an editable default without a specific reference, treat that value as a planning assumption rather than a universal fact. Replace it with the exact value for the product, supplier, location, and project whenever possible.
Suggesting a source
If you have a manufacturer document, technical sheet, supplier specification, or other reliable reference that would improve a calculator, send the page URL and source to info@buildyardcalculators.com.
