Woven Wire Mesh Sheets, Laps, and Coverage

Reinforcement sheet count should be based on effective coverage after required overlaps, not nominal sheet area alone. Lay out sheets in both directions and keep lap assumptions explicit.

QUICK ANSWER

The short version

Nominal sheet area is only a lower bound. Determine required reinforcement lap from the design, subtract repeated overlaps from effective sheet coverage, then lay out rows and columns and round to whole sheets.

QUICK CHECKLIST

Five checks before trusting an estimate

  • Nominal sheet area provides a quick lower bound only.
  • Effective repeated dimension is approximately sheet dimension minus the specified lap for interior sheets.
  • Calculate rows and columns from slab dimensions and effective sheet coverage, then round to whole sheets.
  • Wire size, spacing, placement, supports, laps, and development come from project documents and applicable standards.

Start with nominal sheet size

Nominal sheet area provides a quick lower bound only.

Actual usable coverage falls when adjacent sheets overlap.

Apply laps by direction

Effective repeated dimension is approximately sheet dimension minus the specified lap for interior sheets.

Lap requirements depend on reinforcement type and design; do not invent them from a generic waste factor.

Lay out whole sheets

Calculate rows and columns from slab dimensions and effective sheet coverage, then round to whole sheets.

Track edge offcuts that can realistically be reused.

Verify reinforcement requirements

Wire size, spacing, placement, supports, laps, and development come from project documents and applicable standards.

The takeoff estimates quantity only.

VERIFY BEFORE ORDERING

Use project-specific information first

Current manufacturer data, supplier specifications, drawings, field measurements, applicable codes, permit requirements, and qualified professional guidance can take priority over a general-purpose planning estimate.
