Use sloped roof area
Calculate every roof plane from its true surface dimensions.
Subtract only openings large enough to materially reduce sheathing demand.
Convert area to sheets
A nominal 4 by 8 foot panel covers 32 square feet before layout losses.
Use the actual panel size selected for the project.
Allow for roof geometry
Hips, valleys, rakes, dormers, and small infill pieces can increase offcuts.
Use a cut-plan-aware allowance rather than relying on area alone.
Respect panel orientation and spacing
Panel strength axis, framing direction, edge support, and recommended panel gaps affect installation.
These requirements are separate from the arithmetic sheet count.
Verify structural selection
Panel thickness and span rating depend on framing and design conditions.
The takeoff should follow the specified sheathing, not choose it.
